Festival Illustration
Digital
In 2019 I was delighted and excited to be commissioned by Roisín in the Enniskillen St. Patrick's Day Festival committee to design an illustration for use by the festival.  The brief was to come up with a St Patrick for the modern day possibly surfing around the island.
I went for a had drawn contemporary wood cut feel.  This was scanned and digitally enhanced.  St Patrick is young, strong and a great waterskiier.  The typeface chosen complemented the swirly feel of the Lough.

Friars leap
Pen and ink
Keeping with the watery theme I was exploring some stories that come from Lough Erne.  Friars Leap is a location where a friar from Devenish Island jumped across a stretch of water to escape the devil.  I imagined he would have been scared and bewildered and a bit hapless.  Under the water we can only imagine what lives.  I was looking to create a 'modern' Victorian feel in this pen and ink.  If you look carefully you can see the wee fella himself.
Lady of the Lake
Pen and ink
Keeping with the watery theme I was exploring some stories that come from Lough Erne.  The Lady of the Lake walks through the mists in May on Lough Erne when good times are ahead.  In her hands she has bunch of beautiful wild flowers.  She is known to wisp past islands before disappearing again.  I haven't seen her myself...
I wanted to create a timeless, wistful magical piece evocative of a wisp around the Lower Lough.

Crom Bull
Watercolour and pen
This is only an estimation of the size of the Crom bull.  I used a play with negative space and a limited colour to create atmosphere.

Chapelizod Church, Dublin
Watercolour and pen
This was a wedding present for a couple who got married in this church.  I wanted to draw and paint something playful and happy to mark the occasion.  I got drawn into a stained glass feel for the finished piece where thick and thin lines are used to try to draw the viewer around the piece.

Beware the fanscape of contentment
Watercolour and pen
I worked in an office where the heat in summer was oppressive.  As it was an old building the only escape was to fill the place with fans.  To be honest they kinda freaked me out and inspired this cartoon.
