Derry
Watercolour
It's way up North West to Derry for this painting. I loved the challenge of capturing the city from the Craigavon Bridge to Magee and everywhere in between. For me this really takes me back to my college days in Magee. I have even managed to squeeze in 2b Queen Street where I used to live.
I tried to capture the hills in a childlike way where they seem to go on forever into the sky, the walls in a way where they looked to wrap the city and the majestic splendour of the River Foyle .
To be honest I thought the detail was going to kill this or make it painful to look at. However, as the linework came together it calmed down and the big lines really help bring out elements like the Guildhall.
