Dublin Bay
Watercolour and pen
I had to do a portrait of Dublin that included the lighthouses. I am continuing with my new watercolour technique. There is an element of uncertainty. Initially I had to come up with a composition that included a two mile long scene without making it seem too unreal. The Sky is an experiment in sunset and I think it has turned out well. The water incorporates the colours of the sea and the light from the sky. In this one I have included the name Dublin as it really seemed to set off the piece.
Dublin Bay Lighthouses
Watercolour and pen
There are few buildings in Dublin more unusual and more functional than the lighthouses in the Bay. I love the colours, shapes and isolation I see when I think of these buildings. In these watercolours I have tried to create something where they are separate, yet together and where the character of the sea plays a strong part in the piece.

Howth Lighthouse
Watercolour and pen
There are few paintings that start as amazing landscape panoramas and end up as a narrow vertical snapshot of a key element. Alas this lighthouse was once part of a wider piece where I ended up creating a complete mess. However, I fell in love with one wee corner and really glad it stands alone as a piece.

Clontarf
Oil on canvas
when I came to Dublin first I lived near the seafront in Clontarf. Although the elements remain the same, every time I come down Oulton Road and look out the scene has a very different feel.
Sunrises are amazing, but I have to say that those summer evenings when gunpowder grey clouds dominate the horizon and the sun breaks through are my favourite. This is what I have aimed to capture.
